The 5th Generation iPod Nano’s are here and the 4th Generations are on their way out. But for a limited time, you can take your pick of which Nano you’d like – and if you choose the 4th generation Nano, you’ll enjoy some great savings!
iPods are a popular item with today’s kids. My daughter got her first Nano (the 3rd generation) when she was six and it’s been one of the most well-used items in our home.
I’ve always thought that the iPod Nano is the best iPod for kids – it’s affordable and it allows for both video and music output. It’s also large enough to hold a decent size library, but it’s not so large that you’ll be spending money on storage that you’ll never use, like with the iPod Classic, for example.
Another benefit to the price is that it’s not so steep that you’ll feel you’re out a lot if your child accidently breaks or loses their iPod – which tends to happen, especially with smaller kids.
We’ve established that the Nano is a great iPod for kids – but how do you choose between the 4th and 5th generation. Here’s the secret…the biggest differnce between the two is that the 5th generation Nano has a video camera. One other major difference is that the 5th generation Nano also has the ability to play FM radio. So, if your child won’t use the video camera and doesn’t care about FM radio, then the cheaper, 4th generation Nano is probably your best bet.
Once you’ve decided on which generation of the Nano to buy, you’ll want to decide on the amount of storage you’ll need. With the iPod Nano, you’ve got a choice between 8GB and 16GB. I’m always inclined to encourage people to buy larger, because you don’t pay double the price for double the storage. For about $30 more, you’ll get double the storage, which means that you can store twice as many songs or videos. However, if price is a concern, don’t be afraid to go with the smaller iPod Nano – because changing out songs and movies is really very simple.
No matter what you choose, one thing is for sure – you’re child is sure to be thrilled with their new
